Service types

Bathtub replacement

Removing a tub and setting a new tub, often with surround work.

Questions to ask

  • Does the new tub use the existing drain location?
  • What substrate goes behind the surround?
  • Is the tub alcove square, or does the bid include wall repair?

Shower installation

Prefabricated bases and tiled showers, including the waterproofing layer.

Questions to ask

  • Is the waterproofing a sheet membrane, a liquid membrane, or a prefabricated base?
  • Who does the plumbing valve, and is it pressure-balanced or thermostatic?
  • How is the curb built, and how does the floor slope to the drain?

Bathroom remodeling

Layout changes, vanities, lighting, ventilation, and finishes.

Questions to ask

  • Is the scope a fixture swap or a layout change that moves the toilet or the shower?
  • Who is the lead contractor, and which trades are subcontracted?
  • What allowance is in the bid for tile, fixtures, and fan, and what is extra?

Accessibility upgrades

Grab bars, curbless entries, shower seats, and door widths.

Questions to ask

  • Are grab bars blocked into structure, or only into the finished wall?
  • Does a curbless shower require a recessed floor, and is that in the price?
  • Which clearances are you designing to, and are they a code requirement here?

For homeowners

  • Moving a toilet is a larger job than swapping a toilet. The drain in the floor decides a lot of the layout.
  • A fan that actually exhausts outdoors matters in a wet room. Recirculating fans do not remove moisture from the house.
  • Ask for a written allowance versus a specified product. Allowances are where remodel bids quietly move.

Questions

Do I need a plan before I call?

Call with the bathroom you have and the one you want. We'll help you get that conversation going.

Should I price it myself first?

Call first. The room has to be seen before a number means anything.
